Helen Child is a comic performance poet, comedienne and visual artist, who's work is witty, quirky and satirical.

Helen has performed as a head-line act at many of WA's major festivals and venues over the past 12 years, including Albany Sprung Writers Festival 2006, Artrage, Fremantle Festival and has performed 3 successful solo shows for the WA Pride Festival.

Helen performed at the Melbourne Overload Poetry Festival 2007, the Geralton Sunshine Festival 2008, as Elvis at the WA Pride Festival L-Party 2008 and was a guest performer at Adelaide's funkiest comedy venue, the Rhino Room 2008.

Helen writes all her own material, makes her own props and laughs at her own jokes. She gives workshops on comic performance poetry and writing for performance. She teaches drama to the elderly, writes short plays and performs live. Helen has performed on RTR FM radio , Perth Access TV and Melbourne's "Noise TV" CTV in 2007. Her goals for 2009 onwards are: to publish her plays, an illustrated book of poetry, perform at more eastern states festivals and make a short film.

As well as exploring adult themes, Helen also has poetry and performance suitable for children with a grim's fairey-tale style, as performed for the Sunshine Festival 2008.

Helen also performs for environmental awareness and human rights events, such as Reclaim the Night, Men of the Trees, Save Jabaluka concert and was co-founder and MC at Perth Poetry Club from march 2009 - Sept 2009.

Helen's performances may include character stand-up, comic poetry, crazy props, warped songs, impromptu gun-fire and atrocious dancing.

Her character acts include: Flatulent feminist Aquilla Fartbottom, Dolly the Sex-doll (sex toy rights activist), Wacko Jacko, Traja Dee, Helvis the Pelvis, The Queen, Old Ma Bones and Pauline Fartson.

Helen graduated from the D.D.I.A.E, in Toowoomba QLD, with an advanced diploma of visual art, majoring in sculpture and minoring in theatre. She worked successfully as a sculptor in Brisbane and Perth for 7 years, before a severe muscular illness prompted creative change to writing and performing. Her work appears in numorous zenes and websites, including Word is Out Magazene 2007&8 and Numbat, Melaluca and her CD "Poetry From Hel", is available at Perth alternative record stores -
